The National Day of Prayer

I'm sitting in my office reflecting on this day set aside for prayer. I just came from the National Day of Prayer Service that our school had. It was powerful. The students lead in worship and prayer with sincere hearts. Local leaders like Curtis Bostic and Judge Scarbourgh spoke words of truth. God was there.

I'm hearing the "buzz" around about how the National Day of Prayer has been canceled. I have attached two articles that you can read:
HERE is an article about the prayer service at the White House being canceled.
HERE is the official proclamation from President Obama declaring this a National Day of Prayer.

This, church, is what we are called to do today:

1 Timothy 2:1-6
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testimony given in its proper time.

Regardless of what your political stance is, we are called to pray this day and everyday. Wouldn't the enemy win if today we spent our time discussing what types of prayer was or was not going on in the White House? Or what if we reflected on the "good ole days" (whenever that was), when prayer was more accepted and judges didn't make rulings we disagreed with? Or what if we talked with friends about the latest thing we had heard on the radio or read in a forwarded email?

What if we did all those things and didn't pray?

The truth is that we have one mediator who has made a way for us to go before the throne of grace today and his name is Jesus. And we need Him as much today as we did the day our country was founded.

When you are tempted today to talk instead of pray, I challenge you -- in that moment -- to stop that conversation, stop that trail of thinking, stop watching the news ...
and pray.

  2. I really enjoyed your blog. It was very well written! Also, thank you for drawing attention to The National Day of Prayer. You can help call our nation to prayer by posting this prayer request to your blog's side panel. I'm hoping that our country will turn to God in prayer.
