Ash Wednesday - the beginning of Lent

Today is Ash Wednesday. It is celebrated 46 days before Easter and serves as the beginning of Lent. It is a day of repentance.

I told the church on Sunday that we are participating in a corporate fast beginning today. Our church's corporate fast will have three elements:

1- Fasting something that you drink, eat, or do daily (like sweets, coffee, TV, etc.) This is to be something constant over the 46 days that will remind you that we are fasting.

2- Fasting food during the day on Wednesdays. We will have the prayer room open for those who would like to gather during the lunch break from 11:30-1:30 every Wednesday.

3- We will end Lent with a three-day liquid-only fast that will end the night before Easter. (you will hear more about this later.)

If you are reading this today and had not yet considered what you will be fasting, take a few moments today to think about what the Lord would want you to fast and what he would want you to focus on in your prayers. We will talk about it more this Sunday!

  1. I am so glad our church is teaching fasting. It is something that has not been taught or practiced for a number of years. I appreciate you bringing this teaching and talking about lent.
